Thought I'd start a thread to put some links up for usefull stuff for camping. Some essentials, and some luxuries. Feel free to add stuff that you think makes camping nicer!
For my first submission I offer the Katadyn Gravity Fed Microfilter for water purification. This is also great to have for storm readiness. The filter will filter 200 gallons of water before you need to change the cartridge.

Every good campsite needs lighting......since propane is so easy to deal with I'm showing that version rather than the old pump up fluid version.

Now on the islands when mosquitos aren't the main pest, but gnats and noseeums are, this won't help too much. However, in the woods, by a lake or on a creek bank this Thermacell Skeeter repellant is hard to beat!

Let's see, good things for camping........a case of beer, a pack of red-hot weiners, some beenie-weenies, a good gun and knife for killing stuff, a rod and reel if near water, a warm body of the opposite sex to sleep by at night, a 1 1/2 inch thick steak to cook on the grill or campfire, a box of matches.........these are the things my wife said would be good.

Man those pic's of the creek were beautiful. I've been up and down that thing from Danzler to Fairley Bridge. My daughter was raised on it....learned to swim there...we live one mile from it lol....When we went camping there....we'd stay almost 2 weeks in the woods...( close driving distance from home though )....cooked everything on the fire with cast iron pots...set lines out....had a gooooood ole time.....thing is....i can't just float down it without a rod'n reel in the boat......those kentucky's are callin me. Thats what I thought of when I saw those pic's....I couldn't pass those places without chunk'n......anyhow...those are some nice tents...I've owned one like it. I've used one of Fish-Baits tents on overnighters though. They're nice too...but I'd have to hurry up and cram stuff in it so it wouldn't blow away like his did....those lil wire spike's don't work too good in loose sand lol.....

That's a neat hike. We did the Trillium Gap trail this past Novermber, went up to Grotto Falls. The wife and kids made the hike, I was proud of them. Of course, I ended up toting the littlest one on my shoulders most of the way.

My wife and I were riding a VW dune buggy I used to have. We were exploring roads leading to Black Creek. We were just creeping along...in no hurry...and a man came out of nowhere and walked out of the brush. I thought he was lost because he wasn't a local so I stopped and asked a fiew questions. He told me he was hiding his stash...he was flanking the hiking trail and hiding supplies along the way. I don't know how long he'd hike but it must have been for days at a time. Anyway he was talking about roughing it and told us he loved being on the edge when it came to survival. I mean you can't get lost on the nature trail but I asked him if he took a cell phone and he said no. I asked what might happen if he were snake bit...or broke his leg...and he couldn't get help....that question was right up his alley...he preached for 15 minutes on survival and if its your time its your time and he wasn't taking cell phones or anything that might help him. I thought of that when you mentioned the GPS. I have my cell phone every where I go and if I had a GPS I promise you I'd have it with me all the time. My cell phone has already kept my wife and I from spending 2 days of misery on the creek floating during a bad storm. You're not catching any crap from me for taking your GPS.....You know....I never saw that man again.............
