MTV Games, Harmonix And EA Confirm Plans To Ship Standalone Rock BandTM Instruments To U.S. Retail Stores

Harmonix, one of the world’s leading developers of music-based games, and MTV Games, , along with distribution partner Electronic Arts Inc. announced today that individual instrument peripherals for Rock Band™ will start shipping to U.S. store shelves beginning on February 12th.

“The release of standalone instruments allows Rock Band musicians to enjoy the full Rock Band experience, including drum, microphone and guitar head-to-head modes, creating a whole new level of competitive fun,” said Alex Rigopulos, CEO and co-founder, Harmonix. “We’re also delivering a stand-alone wireless guitar solution for all versions of Rock Band as well as providing the opportunity for consumers to build their band one instrument at a time.”

With the standalone instruments being made available, Let the ROCK OFFS BEGIN! with competing challenging play modes such as mic vs. mic, drum vs. drum and guitar vs. guitar. Players can battle each other in versus modes in "Score Duel" mode for the high score or in the challenging "tug of war" mode, Your skills better be tight. The awesome versus modes can be played locally or online and work with all rock band downloaded songs. But theres a downside, Both players must own the same song in order to play in these modes(why cant just one be the server running the damn song? why!!)

Why didn't they do this at Christmas? I know my parents would have got two of each just to keep the peace... Now everyone's probably settled on the instrument of their choice...

I got the PS2 version last weekend and was EXTREMELY happy to learn the instruments will work on the PS3. When I make the move to the PS3 i'll only have to buy the game to play it all again.

My wireless Guitar Hero guitar works with Rock Band, but the Rock Band guitar doesn't work for Guitar Hero (PS2)
Usually I play guitar and my seven year old plays bass and we have a BLAST.

Yeah, most things geared for ps2 aren't compatible with ps3. Good the guitar works for ya though. Supposidly some of the ps2 games work with ps3 but we haven't found one yet. :(

Yeah, most things geared for ps2 aren't compatible with ps3. Good the guitar works for ya though. Supposidly some of the ps2 games work with ps3 but we haven't found one yet. :(They took backwards compatibility out of the 40GB version, so if that's the one you have, that's the reason why you can't find a PS2 game that works.
Also, ALL of the PS2 Rock Band hardware works with the PS3. So when I finally update to a PS3, I just need to buy the game. :)
