MOFRO played the Bottling Co. last night. This was the second appearance of this great band out of Jacksonville, FL.
The show began with a solo acoustic set by country/folk singer Adam Hood from Opelika, AL:

I had never heard of him, but he put on a great opener, warming the crowd for the headliners. I will have to check into his music a little more!
The October show must have created a buzz, for there was a bussling crowd in anticipation of JJ Grey and MOFRO taking the stage. The set list varied from the October show, probably by design. It included two Muddy Waters covers. The band was on, and the crowd was loving it, enthusiastically joining in on favorites like "Lochloosa". JJ did spill his Makers Mark on the organ at one point. He is an incredible musician, seamlessly switching from organ, to guitar, to harmonica. All the while wowing the crowd with his deep, soulful voice and down-home lyrics.
The band also includes a two piece horn section, keyboardist (who holds down the bass, also), and Daryl Hance on Stratocaster slide guitar.
After two encores, the band finished up around 1:15am. Members stuck around for a time, and JJ was graciously signing cd's, t-shirts, and posing for pictures.
A great time was had by all. The beer was cold and the bartenders worked hard to provide for the large crowd.
The show was recorded, and is currently being uploaded to the Live Music Archive. It should be available for listening or download by the end of the day:

The site requires no login, and allows audio streaming to listen, or download in a variety of formats.
The live music scene in Hattiesburg is alive and well. Do yourself a favor and get out. There is sure to be a genre of music that suits your tastes!
Sleep? We don't need no stinking sleep!
As The Who said, "Sleep is for fools, who never see the sun rise!"
