Well, when I flew home from Tampa, I wore an old pair of jeans folded over at the waist and buckled with my belt for dear life. When I was instructed to take off the belt in airport security, my pants immediately flew south for the winter. As such, Mrs. Doc and I spent some time and money at the mall this weekend buying some new jeans. I figured that was a good prompt for an update on my weight loss for anyone interested.
I started this adventure on May 29, 2006. On that date, here are my numbers:
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 532 pounds
Waist: 58 inches
Shoe size: 14 wide
As of 1/28/2008 at 7:15am
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 258 pounds
Waist: 38 inches
Shoe size: 13 medium
The shoe size thing was unexpected. My wife pointed out to me that I have now lost more than I currently weight.
Unbelieveable.
Now, for anyone out there who struggles with weight, I am not special. I don't have some secret thus-and-such inside of me that made this possible. It was just effort and dedication, and all of us can have that.
This has not been easy, but if I could give one piece of advice, I would say, "start small and deprive yourself as LITTLE as possible." I've looked at all the fad diets, popular diets, and all the rest, but I've learned that at the end of the day, the loss or gaining of weight is a simple matter of thermodynamics: either taking in more or burning off more calories than you take in.
I really appreciate all of the encouragement and support I have received from so many of you. You are some special people.
Oh, and for anyone who is curious; 225 is my goal weight. I should be there by the summer!
