Both my husband and I are Catholic and we enjoy going to church together every week but lately it has been very hard as neither one of us connect well with the priests at Sacred Heart or St. Thomas. That is not to say that they are not great priests but they are just not right for us. We have talked about trying either a Episcopal Church or Lutheran Chruch since they are similar to Catholic's. Has anyone had any experience with either in this area? We would really like to get back to attenting services every week and feel it would be easier if we were somewhere where we felt more comfortable.

The episcopal church is nice. I think what you will run into asking about different churches though is people telling you what one church believes is o.k. over the other church. The best way to do this is go and visit for services. I don't go to church much anymore. I used to go with the wife. We go to a little Catholic church out in Bassfield. St. Mary's I think. The name escapes me. It's a neat little church. The crowd is small. The sermons are adequeate (sp?) and reasonable...in other words you aren't there for 3 hours. We had Father Cuddy (sp?) for a long time. He married the wife and I and he was a hoot. I mean he literaly made it interesting for us. Now we have a new priest. He's hard for me to understand sometimes because of his dialect, but it's a nice congregation for the most part. I wish you well in your search.

I am not really looking into what one church believes over another, more along the lines of if the preacher is interesting, easy to follow things like that. I do not plan on converting, just finding a place that I want to go and not where it feels like it is a chore, which is how it has been here lately with.

You should check out the little church in Bassfield then, unless it's too far to drive. I would even be happy to meet you there if need be so you wouldn't feel uncomfortable or what not. I've attended services at the Lutheran and the Episcopal churches not far from down town. It's been more than 10 years though since I've done this.

Bassfield is a little far but thank you so much for the offer. If one Sunday the husband and I feel like a drive we will have to go there.

Cool, early church is at 8 am late is at 10. Give yourself 35 minutes to get there from the intersection of hwy 42w and hwy 49 north (like goin' to Sumrall).

I think its St Peter's in Bassfield. And... Fr Cuddy (Cuthbert O'Connell) is a fantastic Priest
I get dry at Sacred Heart also at times.

Mom & Dad still go to Sacred Heart, and my kids go to school there, but we've since moved to St. Thomas for Mass. I find Fadder Tommy hard to beat.

St. Patty's day is March 17. Don't know when the parades are but I would suspect the Bay Parade is March 16th as they generally hold it on a Sunday.

You're always welcome at Dixie Baptist Church, even though you're Catholic, we won't hold it against ya!

It took me about 4 months to get used to Father Tommy at Saint Thomas. It took 3 months for me to be able to understand him, then another month to understand that a priest can be on the cool side of life too. I have come to love Father Tommy, it did take a while though. If you haven't given yourself a little time at St. Thomas please give it another try.
