My father-in-law just called me. He was on the coast visiting with some family. He was leaving his bro's place when the truck just quit. It spins over but will not crank. He's getting fuel to engine, just won't start.
Anyone know of any problems with Duramax's?
I hate to say it, but it's the first time a GM product has failed us........

it was running then just quit?
sounds like a cylinder cracked or something not giving any compresson-
how many miles on it? most of the diesels out there have a 100k powertrain warranty=

It's been running fine. They filled up, drove down to the coast, visited, cranked up, made it out the driveway and it just died. The engine will still turn over, just won't fire off. I 'googled' some stuff and it could be fuel injector related or the ECM could be fried. We gonna head down this evening and get it on a trailer and bring it back.

My father-in-law, by the way, has worked on many of the older GM diesels out at Camp Shelby, in the past. But he said this one has him miffed. We've got a code reader/scanner thing and are gonna check for codes.

I urged him to get a Dodge cummins diesel, and not the Duramax, so make a note of that.

I think he's got 70 something thousand on it, it's an '04 or '05 model.

I may not be point on here but if I remember correctly a diesel engine has a compression release until the engine gets spinning really good for a crank up.
Could be the compression release not letting go.

Just got off phone with father-in-law. He says fuel is getting to the injector thing, but he doesn't think it's getting through the injectors. Thinks is may be an 'injector module' or something like that.

I forgot to let y'all know. It was the fuse for the injector module thing. Fuel was getting to it, but not through it. We 'looked' at the fuses and they all 'looked' good, till we checked them with the multi-meter....DOH!
