I thought about putting my storm list stash items up here but it may be more fun to see what everyone stocks for that just in case scenario.
I'm going to start it off with:
* Plenty of bottled water and other drinkable items.

Fresh flashlights that work with batteries and those little battery operated camp lights you can stick all around the house or carry with you. They look like a little lantern but run on batteries.

And make sure that generator has been cranked recently and operational. Plenty of spare gas, oil filter, oil, spark plugs, extension cords.

July 7th, 2008, 05:28 PM
It get's PMed every month, and no extension cords, it has 1 40 amp extension cord that plugs into an inlet, goes through a 40 amp breaker, and backfeeds the house.

With the right kind of phone, you should still be able to access www.yourhattiesburg.com (http://www.yourhattiesburg.com) (unless the servers end up in the disaster zone too). Maybe a good way to keep in touch with friends and family from outside the area.

I learned this one the hard way:
If you have plenty of flavored high carb drinks you can always mix them with cereal and after once or twice you kind of like it.
So, besides the drinks, stock up on dry cereal.

Turned into something very important for us after Katrina, and usually does out here after any kind of storm:
Make sure your tractor is in good shape, fueled up and you have extra fuel.
Make sure your tractor implements are in good shape and ready to go.
Keep up your service on your chain saws, etc.
We normally wind up cleaning out the roadways ourselves out here in cow country.
Tires on farm equipment should be kept up to date.

Oh, make sure the spare tires on your vehicles are in good shape.
Driving through debris, even limbs after a storm is going to give you a good chance to ruin a tire on the ground, happened to me.

It's like WD-40, it has no limits to what can be fixed or remedied, even temporarily.

I remembered something that happened during Katrina. My little niece got sick and I had to go around town and find some place open to get her some baby tylenol. I stood in line at a grocery store for a long time. The store didn't have power. So make sure you have baby meds.

Don't know if anyone mentioned this yet but clothes pins for the clothes line.
Most of the generators we use for home use do not pull 220 voltage the best in the world especially if you have a few 110 voltage energy suckers going so the clothes line works out good, you can use the 110 voltage washing machine and just hang out clothes.
After Katrina I mostly wore shorts and tank tops and crocs, even while working to clear debris and the wash loads weren't hard to deal with.

I can see right now I don't have everything I need, but I'm in pretty good shape. If a "wind event" were in the offing, we'd be heading over to BabyBro's 80 year old solid masonry house with no trees in the yard (any more). With water the main danger, I'm thinking I need to stay in my house in case I need to get stuff off the floor.
Got extra pet food last Saturday, have sterno, batteries, medical items and beaucoup canned food. Have lots of containers of ice in the freezer but could start some more. (Solid ice, peoples, solid ice.)
Main concern is my mom's back door.
