Okay, I was appointed 'coordiantor' for our RA's at our church. I dunno what that entails, except that it means I gotta come up with stuff/events/etc for the RA teachers and the kids.
My wife suggested soapbox derby racing. She swears up and down that about a year ago there was a soapbox race on the road that the old Sunbeam plant is on in the industrial park in Hattiesburg. She said they were starting at the end that runs into HWY 98, since it's on a hill, and racing towards the Sunbeam plant.
I was like, why didn't you tell me about this way back when? Duh, I'da been checking it out, ya know?
So, does anyone know about that event? Maybe our RA's can race other church's etc. or Boy Scout/Cub Scout troops.

Trying to think of a downhill grade long enough to have a decent run for ya.......I know a road, but I don't think it's been maintained, and would probably wipe you out.

Haha Bpitt is gonna put a motor in his soapbox car or a rocket or something lol. I dont know anywhere, besides that area in industrial park but semis occasionally come through there. Not sure if you could block it off or something? Maybe find a downhill street and ask neighbors if its ok to set up an event there?

Well, I found a couple of guys who have coordinated events for the All-Ameican Soap Box Derby racing series. One event was held in Meridian and another was held in Moss Point, however, I don't know of any hills in Moss Point. Had to have been a slow race, ya know? I'll probably contact them for advice.

As far as just having one you could stage it at TurtleCreek Mall. The slight slope would not get anyone hurt and you could even put cones out to they would have to go around some curves.
Start at the upper part of the parking lot facing the red light on the corner and let it end at the bottom near Dillard's.
You will have kids out there in Red Flyer wagons and everything else under the Sun. That is the beauty of it. Just kids having fun and bringing whatever they think of to ride in.
And you can let them do it over and over and over again.
WCW restaurant is just across the street. Good place for everyone to have lunch.

there's a deadly fast, straight hill at Camp Shelby's east gate rd. close to 98E aka Ragland Hills Rd.
Having RC air races with cheap Air Hogs might be a good option, Pitt.
Kite fighting is also a kick.
