Hole Digging Dog

What is a good way to stop a dog from digging up the yard? Its also got to be a way in which my 3yo daughter will not think daddy is killing the dog.

The dog will probably go to the same soft dirt to dig regularly.........potted plant areas are their favorites. Put some water balloons in the soft dirt, he won't like hitting those. If that doesn't work, crumple some aluminum cans and bury them, he won't like his paws striking the hard stuff. But the best way is to catch him in the act and correct the behavior right then.

The hole diggin' will prolly stop when it cools off. Try getting a cool mat for the dog to lay on. I think you can order them from Cabelas. It's just so hot right now and the dog's are gonna dig to get to the cooler ground. My lab is the worlds worst when she is outside. You can sprinkly cayenne pepper around the places it's diggin', but likely it'll find another place. What BassCatter said also. Catch them in the act.

Barb wire.
Black pepper.
Barb wire works better.
If you or somebody you know has some left over pieces of barb wire it will be coiled up. Doesn't have to be more than 3-4 coils, just cover your hole back up and I'm guessing it's next to your house or somewhere in a shaded area.
Just lay the barb wire on top of where they dig the hole, game over.

I've had "some" luck with the black pepper, especially with nose sensitive dogs. Buy you a big box of just old black pepper, cheapest you can find, cover your hole up and sprinkle generously on top of it.

This has worked for me...and I read it somewhere in some dog training book. Go buy a pack of mouse traps....not those big rat traps...get the small ones....loosen up the dirt where it lay's and set the traps in and around it and sprinkle lightly with dirt. The traps won't hurt the dog...just scare the heck out of it. It worked for Hummingbird's flower beds for sure.

I tole Hummingbird and Pencil Artist while we were at the cabin on lil black to start leavin the lid up whey they finished but they wouldn't. Heck whatcha expect with the lid down all tha time....dang.

I haven't had a dog in the yard for a long time but the next diggin dog I have I'll try the poop in the hole trick.
