Europe stocks open lower after Ryanair warning, German data

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European stocks were off to a weaker start Monday as German consumer confidence hit a five-year low, Ryanair warned of an annual loss of up to 60 million euros and TNT said its 2008 result would be at the low end of a previous range. Ryanair shares lost 24% and TNT fell 3.3%. But Pearson and Reckitt Benckiser both rose nearly 3% after more upbeat updates. The U.K. FTSE 100 fell 0.3% to 5,337, the German DAX 30 fell 0.8% to 6,387 and the French CAC 40 fell 0.6% to 4,348.
