Kraft earnings rise 9% to 48 cents a share in second quarter

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Kraft Foods Inc. said Monday that second-quarter earnings were $732 million, or 48 cents a share, compared to $707 million, or 44 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue rose 21.4% to $11.2 billion. Excluding items, Kraft earnings per share were 58 cents a share, compared to 50 cents. On average, analysts polled by FactSet Research estimated earnings of 50 cents a share on sales of $10.6 billion. Kraft sees 2008 earnings per share of at least $1.54 a share, and $1.92 a share excluding items with organic growth of at least 6%.
