You know for as long as I lived down there in Pascagoula I don't think I have ever gandered at a Sandhill Crane.....anyways..

GAUTIER – Number Nine, a sandhill crane conceived from frozen semen almost six months ago, will be welcomed to its new home at the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge on Jan. 8.

From the HBA files. (http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071226/NEWS01/71226008&GID=8pKG0/V082/MGS0FRWYoyb8pOAD/g0edkma9ntXTXkU%3D)

I never spotted any either......From your quote, sound like they are trying to repopulate the area.

I've seen two down there while fishing, they came flying over us. The ironic thing is, if you check when their 'nesting' season is, it always seems to be about the time they do the 'controlled burn' of the area. Seems like somebody might be trying to add some job security.
