GM cutting back on Saab's warranty in U.S. market: report

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- General Motors Corp. is scaling back on the warranty agreement it is offering on Saab vehicles in the U.S. market in a bid to reduce costs and to better compete with premium European brands, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday in its online edition. Saab vehicles will now come with a four-year, 50,000 mile warranty rather than the five-year, 100,000 mile warranty offered on vehicles sold through GM in the United States, the newspaper said, citing Saab spokeswoman Joanne Krell. Some analysts suggested GM should get rid of Saab altogether as it diverts marketing dollars that could be used on other GM brands, the Journal reported.
