Ridgeland’s Harbor Drive has been named a “certified urban forest.”

The city’s efforts on the roadway, which connects Rice Road and Lake Harbour Drive along the Ross Barnett Reservoir, were recognized at the Urban Forestry Awards banquet of the Mississippi Urban Forest Council on Wednesday.

Also at the banquet, Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee was re-elected president of the state Urban Forest Council.

“The landscaping and tree planting on Harbor Drive is an example of the commitment of the city of Ridgeland to continue to do what is necessary to protect and enhance the environment as well as improve the quality of life of our citizens, while protecting and increasing our property values,” McGee said in a news release.

Forests are cool, especially when they are 'inside' a city. Kinda helps with the whole kharma thing.

I've always appreciated those houses they have built around Jackson and other places where they leave a bunch of planned "woods" at least as a border around the house. They make it look like it was just supposed to be that way.

I also enjoy 'greenbelts'. Something we don't see around the 'burg. However, I've seen them while in Denver, Dallas, etc.

Yep, they purposefully left those in and around Atlanta too.
On that same thought we have more of those here for driving than I have seen in some other places. You know like they leave a big strip of trees in the median. Keeps the lights from blinding you from opposing traffic.
Ima go put on my green t-shirt for this afternoon.
