PASCAGOULA – A public hearing is planned early next month on projects planned by Chevron Products Company in Bayou Casotte in Jackson County.

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources will conduct the August 4 hearing at the Gautier Public Library.
The department says Chevron seeks authorization to dredge 20,000 cubic yards of material to expand three berthing areas, to construct overwater structures and to place mooring pilings in Bayou Casotte for the purpose of upgrading and expanding the company’s ship-loading facilities.
The agency says Chevron plans to fill almost 70 acres of low-quality, non-tidal wetlands to expand its processing plant and has proposed purchasing the appropriate number of mitigation credits from an approved mitigation bank for the fill of the wetlands.

I ain't got no problem with this if it helps lower fuel costs, i.e, expanding the refinery. Also, though some wetlands will be filled, the mooring pilings would/could be a fish attractant/haven.
