This is so sad (http://www.wdam.com/Global/story.asp?S=7545113). Of all the things that could have prevented an accident.
From WDAM....
A Bassfield man was found dead in a wooded area Wednesday morning, and authorities are checking to see if the man may have accidentally shot himself while hunting.

Dddaaannnggggggg.........
That sucks. Now is a good time to suggest to anyone who has not taken a hunter's ed course to do so, they cover safety in it.

I have a friend whose son was shot in the head while handing a gun down to his friend. He was 15 years old at that time, I think...he lived but only by Gods graces!

You will get people from time to time that will say "I am and excellent shot." I always ask them "with what?". They normally reply with. "A gun." I then ask them what type of gun and they normally say rifle......The thing is with any weapon the operator needs to be comfortable handling it. This comfort I am talkin' about really is comfort, but confidence. Hey, I am an excellent shot with my .22 magnum. I have had it for 25 years so I have confidence in it. I am pretty good with my .308 but with it being so small (browning micro-medallion) it literally loosens my teeth when I shoot it.
Of all things safe handling is the key and if you don't have confidence in your ability to handle a certain type of weapon i.e. shotgun pistol rifle it's an accident waiting to happen. I highly recommend training from someone certified whenever a new/different firearm is purchased. Get someone in the know to help you feel confident and safe.

I am afraid this may not have been an accident. I know of many who go to the woods or on their boats when they feel the time has come, rather than letting what is to come naturally be.

Yes I can see where that may come into play.

I was working a hospital years ago, when an elderly man took a gun put it under his chin and pulled the trigger...don't do that, all it did was take his face off....he live several weeks while infection set in and he later died...so sad too...I really felt for his family.
They said he was diagnosed with cancer and didn't want to live through all the treatments and then die.

Interestingly, the HA yesterday's article said the person that found the body called the funeral home. Huh? I would call the cops. Strange. "Hey, guys. Got some bidness for ya!".

I feel for the guy, but I especially feel for the person eye mentioned how bad would that of hurt. I would of asked someone to please let me go I would hate to live with weeks of infection and no face just to pass away that must of been incredibly painful.

I guess we will have to wait for the autopsy and investigation results....I think it would really be kinda hard to shoot yourself with a rifle. I know it has been done, but there were other factors involved....Guess we'll have to wait.

No, I am just sayin' there will be tell tell signs if this person committed suicide with a long gun. I wonder if the Game and Fish people get involved in this of investigation.
