I know you guys have to do something I mean anything. You dont have to be an artistic genious to post here.
Does anyone do stuff like bead chains? Or those little nubs where you make stuff then iron it to get them to stick together?
I will post some of my stuff, I am working on
Stencil design for a 6 (you will understand more when I post it ;) )
Fading my mask (Read above)
And cutting out a guard out of wood for a sword.

I taught myself to crochet after my MIL had her stroke. She always crocheted and I thought if I did it she would pick it back up but she was never able to master it again. She does enjoy watching me.
There are some things that I just liked better knitted so I tried with the needles. I have very good hand-eye coordination but there was just something about working those two needles together that I could never get the hang of. I have a machine that I use for knitting- I did teach myself to use it and it goes much faster than hand knitting and looks great.

Michael's and Hobby Lobby both carry the "Ultimate Sweater Machine". This is what I have- it is easy to use but requires a little space to set it up. I looked at others that were fancier but didn't want something that would have to go in a shop if it broke down. I have a book that shows how to manipulate stitches for different desired effects and I've also learned how to translate most regular hand knitting instructions into machine knitting so it has worked well for the amount of time I spend on it. I made Hawkeye a camoflauge sweater- started it on Sunday afternoon and finished it Monday evening and that included interruptions. I'd do more with it but spend more time sewing, smocking and embroidery. I need more workspace!!

I get how the thread goes in at the top then wraps around but I am confused about the needle thing and how to thread it up through their?
Also look at that other bobbing that is standing up on the bottom, what is that for?
There is already a bottom thread thingy underneath the "secret hatch" underneath where the needle is that is threaded. Why is their three? I have no idea what that third one is for. I see the one hidden on the bottom threaded, then their is the one on top I am confused about but I know it is for the needle, then their is that one on the side that I have no idea what it does.
Also what is that lever for that has numbers that goes up and down? Is that for the space between the stitching when I pull the cloth through?

You thread the needle from front to back and pull several inches out and under the presser foot to the back. If the bobbin thread is not up top then rotate the handwheel on the side holding the top thread. When you see the bottom thread come up through the metal plate then pull both threads to the back. You always want them to the back when you are stitching
Also look at that other bobbing that is standing up on the bottom, what is that for?
That is where you wind the bobbins and that is your secondary one. Take note of how it is threaded so that when you change threads you'll be able to repeat that.
The bottom thread thingy is a bobbin in its holder. This and the needle thread is what will make your stitch.
Also what is that lever for that has numbers that goes up and down? Is that for the space between the stitching when I pull the cloth through?
The numbers on the lever will be the stitch length:
The stitch length adjustment adjusts the length of the stitches your sewing machine makes. The adjustment takes place at the feed dog not the machine needle.
Shortening the stitch length shortens the amount of fabric that is fed under the presser foot before the needle comes down.
Lengthening the stitch length lengthens the amount of fabric that is fed under the presser foot before the needle comes down.
That is very old school pooker. If I can be of further assistance please feel free to call me. What type of project are you doing?

Yeah thats something else I was having problems with, I wasnt sure which material to use. Wal-mart had some white material for 1 dollar a yard but I was unsure of how well it would of sewn, it felt cheap. Its no big deal if I cannot get it done in time the biggest thing is finishing my grimmjow. I was just going to do luppi as well because at the photoshoot their is a few of them, and they are related. All I would of had to do was the shirt since the hakama, boots, etc are the sign.... well and the mask. :)

Plus for those who also put work into the physical part of our costumes the lighting outside is very leniant. Its huge their is a ton of people, and outside shots just give a very nice picture. Nana I have a shirt sewing question.
I found the reviews and understand how to sew it but at looking at my shirts I noticed one thing.
Their is no seam on the actual sides of the shirt like in the tutorials, the main shirt seems to be one piece on my clotching then the sleeves are sewed on. In the tutorial it says to use your shirt design and cut it into two pieces and sewing them along the side to form the base. At which the shirt gives off the sleevless appearance, but my shirts have no seams along the side like in the tutorial. I would like to do it without seams if possible but I am curious how I would fold the fabric as to only have seams along the top shoulder blade? Its almost as if all my shirts were cut out of a cylindrical shape?
Where will it be held?
Dallas and I think my grandparents are coming also so this is gonna be fun LOL
pooker
August 9th, 2008, 06:01 PM
maybe this will help its kind of hard to explain.
Notice in this picture after I have cut out my design the tutorial says to sew it along the edging, I.E. where I marked it seam.
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k188/bigboi69_2006/shirt.jpg
But on my shirts I have in my closet their is no seam along those sides, just at the top and the bottom for trimming. Its like the fabric was cut out of a cylndrical shape already marked. Is their a way to fold it where I would not have seams on the side?
I have a drawn out design from his detail here is how I will do,
I am going to make it two pieces their will be the white simple undershirt then the overlaying design that includes zipper etc. I was going to do it all out of one piece but I think this will be best. :)
double edit -
Question sewing, on hand sewing it says to pull both threads until they are parallel to each other on both sides, then it says with your first insert leave about two inches of the two threads hanging out, the repeaditly go over that so it does not pull threw. Then it says to do the same when you get to the end.
Umm , how would I do this with the singer, would I just repeadily make the needle go up and down over the same area? Then do I just finish it up to the end and cut and tie it or what?

Pook, those stilts were so we could try and avoid the high costs of insurance, because believe it or not, even though the land where we built the cabin has NEVER FLOODED at least in the last 100 years they have a record for it, it is considered in a flood zone. And I do know that people who live closer to the river in camps up on stilts, they do indeed move their vehicles and boat in when it's really bad. I've never seen it that bad in my area near Leaf and Tallahala, but I have heard it does get up especially in January. Thanks ya'll, it's the second one I've helped build from the ground up. The first was our 4 bedroom in Pearl River county where we raised the children.

Well, I did mess up on the counting on the first row. That is why it is taller than me.

lololol...The ONLY one I ever attempted to make was taller than me-on one end. There was about two feet difference from side to side. It was uuuuggggllly.

This was my very first afgan (jun 2002)...I was having to teach myself, cause I didn't have a Nana...wish I did!!!
My sisters and I had the primary colors when we were growing up since we were so close in age. Mine was blue...so the primary colors have always meant a lot to me!

and those of you who have actually met me in person better not say any different!
Glad you like it, it's just MY idea of what a shirt from MSForums should look like...
I just can't make myself use just the initials....*embarrased*

Oh wow 10 stars for the lou ann's sew shop in collins. She refitted a messed up costume for me and made it fit like a dream, everything is perfect you can truly tell this costume was custom made FOR ME.
I highly reccomend anyone that needs anything sewn to go to her. She is on mainstreet in collins, on the right hand side if your coming in from laurel and on the left hand side going to laurel.
She did everything I wanted,
I was initially really afraid, because this event is in just two days and with homework, working on crafts etc I was freaking because she is an older lady. Nothing against that but I know how weird I must of looked explaining this to her, she did everything I wanted to make this costume an EXACT REPLICA.
I am so excited and love everything she did.
I will update complete pics later just for reference so you can see how perfect it is.
I cannot imagine how much talent she had, this outfit literally has to be perfect to wear and match everything. Love it and I am proud to wear it. :)
I have seen people pay 500 dollars for costumes that nowhere compared to this, she is definately top notch and would use again.
Man this is such a huge stress reliever, I had to take off a day of school and remake quizes and tests, I was swamped and was so afraid this was going to fail but it didnt.
Wig is already restyled so even that looks better , I was extremely picky with how and what I wanted and she delivered.
Do redo my costume she only charged me 36 bucks! Come on thats a steal for this. Everyone knows part of being a good cosplayer is accuracy and that is what I wanted and that is what she delivered,

also that was an incorrect translation in the manga, it wasn't supposed to say "sexy espada" it was supposed to say "sexta espada" , a spanish feel was given to this series when they introduced the arrancar.
The 6th number represents Grimmjow's strength in his army ranging from 1-10 of the top ten most powerful espada.
This was how I wanted the costume, because as the manga and anime both progressed grimmjows actual mask changed which I made it to resemble the most current, and his outfit changed which is how I wanted it.
Also remember mirror = reverse, so no the mask is not on the wrong side its the mirror pic.

Oh, my......you aren't going to have a hole in your stomach, are you?

I am either going to do a mirror there or black paint, depends on how slim of a mirror I can find and if I like how it turns out.
But in short yes, :) not a real hole but a fake hole.

I will , problem is. The person I bought the wig from said they were sick and I bought it three weeks ago and just got it. I had a stylist my grandma knew cut it because it was just matted down in that pic.
The problem is, generally wigs that CAN spike are classified as "punky" this was a flat lay wig, so it has a bad problem about falling down. I will spray it the day I wear it, it is styled now just waiting. If I sprayed it now the hairs are bad about sprigging and giving it a bed head look rather than an actual "spikey" look.
The sword is done, I just have to figure out how I will do the handle I am glad with how it came out.
I will post a finished pic, I didnt do it in that one because I use spirit gum to hold the mask to my face which is a skin adhesive, the only problem is, well it stays on there good. Its a pain to get off and irritates my skin really badly.

You may can get some really fine craft wire (comes on a spool, probably find it at Michael's or Hobby Lobby) and put it through the back of the wig to help the hair stand up. Just an idea.......
