CLEVELAND – State inmates have been bused into Bolivar County, marking the official opening of the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility’s separate housing division for females.

The initial groundwork began in September 2007 but the project has been nearly two years in the making.
There is also a separate section for housing a total of 15 county inmates.

The county will receive $20 per day, per state inmate from Mississippi and will allocate funds to house its own prisoners. Warden Tommy Taylor says most of the work on the facility was done by county inmates. Taylor estimates that the inmates work saved the county nearly $2 million.
