POPLARVILLE — Two-year Pearl River Wildcat football assistant Larry Whigham has resigned his post as special teams-defensive backs coach here Friday to pursue other opportunities, says PRCC head coach Tim Hatten.
Whigham, who played nine seasons in the National Football League, was a standout player at Pearl River in 1991 under then-head coach Willie Coats and went on to a stellar two-year stint at Northeast Louisiana (now Louisiana-Monroe) where he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round of the 1994 NFL draft.
“Larry was a huge asset for our program over the past two years,” Hatten said. “He did a tremendous job for us, but a man’s got to take care of his family.
“He just recently lost his mother and he made the hard decision to pursue other career opportunities. Hopefully, we can maybe work something out where he can help us on a part-time basis on game days.”
