I'm still making okra and peppers and damn good crop of weeds. I cleaned out the raised bed by the carport today for something or nuther but prolly just sow a few mustard and collard.

I need to try to grow some onion someday fore I croque. I've always just planted the multiplying onion but not de big bulb kind. I know dere is some knowhow required wif both growing a curing guut unyans.

Thanks, Hawk. I was thinking about onions. Gonna wait 3-4 weeks to start the turnips. Already have the seeds. Does that sound about right?

I cannot grow okra. Every year, it comes up fine, starts to make, starts dropping leaves, and dies. Aggravates the hell out of me!

This is the first year out of four attempts that I've had good success with okra. I tilled up some new ground in the sunniest, most well drained part of the garden, fertilized it, put out ant poison all around the perimeter, rowed it up and waited for sho-nuff hot weather to plant. I soaked the seed over night and planted pretty thick. It came up a good stand and I stated thinning every other plant each week until it was about six inches apart. I side dressed the second time yesterday and its putting out like a by-pass black foot. I have to cut it every day. I also crop off the lower leaves below the blooms and pods as I harvest.

I believe the trick is waiting until the ground is very warm even 4-6 inches deep. And it needs watering often when its really hot and we're getting little rain, something that hasn't been much of a problem this season. I made plenty of tomatoes but lost as many to too much rain. They were growing so fast they would split open.

You could prolly still make a crop of okra if you planted now.

Thanks. I have room. I might do that tomorrow. Maybe they got too much water. I used one of those soil tests from Lowes. pH was 7, Nitrogen was so low it almost didn't register. Phosphorus was middle, and Potassium was high. Got some Ammonium sulfate to correct, and am using it sparingly. Kept me from guessing. I was gonna add lime, but don't need it. I love some okra...

I love onions, sliced, wrapped in some aluminum foil with a lot of butter and some pepper, placed on the grill.

I planted some okra about two weeks ago in my new garden. It's up about 8 inches and is twice as green as the spring batch I planted. My spring batch kept gettin' ate up by the cows. My peas are growin' well also. My new garden looks pretty dang good.

I think so. I got to go get me some seed. I got about 3 short rows at one end of the garden that I can utilize.

Yea. Last year I planted the whole 12x50ft. with greens. Had them for days! Gave them to everyone that said they liked them. Neighbors, mailman, work associates, you name it! And put up enough that I'm still eating them. Better too much than not enough.?

We always waited until September or so to plant our greens.
At least until it cooled off some.
I'm ready for some mustards.

Pretty slick of old FB on that garden. I notice he has cleverly built a hunting stand that is disguised as a child's playhouse overlooking a baited field cleverly disguised as a garden.
That boy ain't nearly dumb.

Man...my okra is waaaay up....I think I might be able to slime a pot of peas now lol..

I planted some zuchini...they are loaded with blooms, but the plants aren't that big...makes me wonder if they will make or not. I got some HUGE squash plants already.

Peas are runnin' everywhere. Corn looks like shat, but it's attracting ladybugs and that should be good for everything else. I planted a few red beans from the store (like you eat red beans and rice) they are about 6 inches tall. I wonder if they will die or make?

I really am likin' this gardening stuff.
