anyone done this? I dont see me finishing on time when I thought because of the math classes, I would like to boot some of these literature classes etc online. Has anyone ever taken an online class seperate from a college place? I tried enrolling in more classes when I waited over an hour to talk to a counselor today O.o but he said 18 was the most you could take and he was letting me slide with 19. I dont think that is true though because I have heard of people taking like 20+ in a semester plus he says I will have my hands full but I dont believe that because some of these classes wont be that hard.
My dilema is I have to have all of these math classes, trig, calc, etc and one is a prerequesite of the other. Which was going to work fine for me as long as we stayed on the block schedule, that is where you have a 4 or 8 hour class and finish it in a couple months and move onto the next one. Thus allowing you to finished one prerequesite class then go on to the next one. Well they got rid of that, and so how its going to work now is I am going to have my math classes holding me behind. Literally I will just have like 6 credit hours of math classes I need which will hold me back after next semester. I was wondering what would happen if I enrolled into a different institution and finished some classes online?

Some schools will not allow you to do that. If they do, you will want to make sure that the credit will transfer to the school you are getting your degree from. Some schools will not allow for an online course to transfer at all.

yeah I need to talk to somebody at usm, this guy was rushing people. I still dont believe that I cannot have more than 19 , I have a 3 hour gap on friday. I have 3 classes two from 8-9:30 and one from 1-1:50 , their is plenty time to throw in a class their or something I would think. Noone answers their phone though lol, this is kinda frustrating. He said I need to talk with a professor at usm or something but I dont know what for. O.o

Most full loads are 19 hours. Some do take from 21-23 hours. If you have any type of financial aid or loan, they may not pay for it.

yup thats he said heck I dunno lol I just remember reading stories about grads and stuff saying "I had to take 24 hours so I could graduate on time". Even if though they didnt pay for the extra classes I am thinking it would be cheaper than paying tuition for another semester though. I hope usm isnt gonna pawn me with pricing lol

Pooker, you don't want to take on too much. It's better to take a smaller load, and excel in the classes, than to make out your load, and only perform mediocre in them.

Pooker, DO NOT take any more hours. I'm serious. I teach sometimes and I see ya'll falling over from tired. Frankly, I don't think freshmen should take more than 12 hours the first semester. But of course I don't think they should be in fraternities the first semester either, but that's just me.
Eighteen hours is plenty. If you have a three hour gap and you just can't stand it, go to the library and study or drink coffee or something.

Take some uber leet skillz classes online. Hang out on forums during those off hours, or study and do your homework for the other classes. Also, start buggin' people who are in the line of work you are wanting to go into. Find a mentor and go hang around them during that down time.

Beware of the upper level math classes that lead the way into the next. If you try to take more than one at a time you might find yourself in a serious learning curve delimna.

And make sure you're in the right sequence for your degree program! Don't end up in your next to last semester finding yourself in the trig class for math majors . . . ask me how I know! Ask me how I got my only D.
A word about advising: your advisor is there to help you, but at the end of it all, you're responsible for yourself. Be familiar with your degree requirements and prerequisites, etc. YOURSELF.

yeah hermione I actually kinda fubared lol. It goes like this
college algebra - trig or precal - cal 1 - cal 2 - cal 3 - cal 4
I am taking trig but I planned on taking trig AND cal 1 this semester but I can't because they changed the block schedule that is whats holding me up. I shoulda been more careful I gotta alot of this weird stuff outta the way I need like phsychology, pub speaking, english, etc without thinking about the math now it is kinda biting me on the but.
I heard they offer "cram" classes after getting off the phone with one of my friends, but he told me they are hard. It allows you to get two classes out of the way in a semester, which looks like I will have to go with. I honestly didnt think calculus was that hard but I am having second thoughts, he said they started with 30 in precal , 15 passed, then 7 passed calc.
If your good at math though hermione you could help me maybe hehe :) Im a mooch
its my fault though because I didnt research , until after today I had no idea what I needed and that I needed so many classes. I saw the "61 hour credits" and assumed in my head I could knock those out quick, I didnt even think about the courses that had prerequesites.

English major huh :evillaugh: thats my worst subject. :halo: I love the way you did your hair this morning Hermione dearest. :) Now that I think about it, I have no strong subject but english is DEFINATELY my weakest. The sentence fragments, run on sentences, horrible clutter wrongs strong in my papers.
ES helped me with my last course that dude is smart! I just wanna get through it lol. Here is my schedule
English comp 1 & 2 (already did one)
speech (finished)
lit (like four ones I can choose from) (still have to do these)
music appreciate ( finished)
social science (alot to choose from gotta have 2 ) (just gotta do one, did phsychology for one)
physics 1 & 2
biology
chem
calc 1-4
oo programming
elective (finished)
The bolded ones are the finished ones, italisized are partial finishes.
As you can see I have to have alot of english stuff, any reccomendations on classes to take? For my social sciences/humanities etc like literature I can choose from a bunch.
I talked with an english major in my class and heard philosophy was hard so I think that one is out.
You know Hermione, my grandma just made cookies and juice.... not trying to bribe you or anything but you are welcome here anytime you please. :) I think I feel a haiku coming on
i love hermione
her name is very hard to say

If you're at USM, you have to take ENG 203 next. World Lit, it's required.

I wanna go for computer science but the only thing I have taken related to that degree was the programming classes.
anyways they approved me for 23 hours lol. I just want to go to usm after next semester tis ' all. I cannot take physics until I finish calc so that was the big deal, I would of been at a community college for like the next two semesters take 3 credit hours per semester which would of been a pain. It was all kind of a big train wreck. I sense a need for strong tutoring in my future. -.-
which I am so confused because I keep getting confused by what everyone tells me. All of this stuff confuses me , I waited forever to talk to a counselor, then when I talk to this counselor I was told that trig would not lead me into calc so I had to take pre-cal. I was like ok? She initially tried to put me in some algebra class which I was told last semester I did not need because of act scores. Then I had to go put in a request to the dean and I was told the best thing to do while here is to talk to a computer science professor at usm because some of my credits might not transfer.
Which confused me even more, because this is the official sheet that I printed off of their website for moving on so I dont understand why some would not transfer? Plus I was told that I could count one of my prerequesites as an elective which I was told today I could not do. But I was already told I could????? I planned on counting pre-cal as my elective but they said I couldn't do that so they put in in some health class, which I still want someone to talk to me about.
anyways, if anyone offers free tutoring hit me up. I feel a strong sense of fail in my future.. -.-
heart attack city when they rang up my books also lol! I am looking on ebay right now for express shipping on some of these, I got out of some classes just by taking notes form the instructor and not using a book. This precal book was 150 dollars lol. I am gonna call books a million and see if they have any of this. :crossesfingers:

Pook, if you're planning to transfer to USM in computer science, by all means talk to a USM adviser. The USM catalog is online and you can look at it too. No point taking a course that won't transfer.
(Don't try to talk to anybody for the next week or two. Classes start Wednesday and it'll be mass chaos for about two weeks after that.)

Yup thanks, I called today and was put on hold and I waited. Then I called back and was told the cs guy could not talk to me so they gave me his e-mail. I downloaded the official computer science thing for what classes are needed so we changed my schedule again I am up to 24. The prcc one was messed up. The reason I called though because I was worried about some electives I chose not transferring over so I decided to take the safe route and get into a history class because I was sure that would transfer.
I will definately call in a few weeks, the thing I am worried about is someone told me you had to take so many hours at usm or the other ones wouldn't transfer. So I was curious about how many hours I could take at prcc before they cut that off?

Just saying: Trig normally leads to Physics and then Calculus.
At least that was the schedule before electricity.
