Kirby Shavers stood silently Monday as a judge told the admitted rapist that he likely would never be free again.
"You almost positively will never leave the penitentiary," Rankin County Circuit Court Judge William Chapman said.
Shavers just stared back.
Last week, he pleaded guilty to rape, kidnapping, aggravated assault, grand larceny and burglary in an attack on a 73-year-old woman in August 2007. He admitted to raping the elderly woman repeatedly at knifepoint at her Brandon home and tying up her adult son with a phone cord.
And he didn't dispute that he robbed her of church money and stole her car. The woman's car was later found in Jackson. He was arrested after being found in an abandoned house there.
The "weight of the evidence against him was overwhelming," Shavers' public defender, Aafram Sellers, said Monday.
