The people in Georgia and the Carolinas actually need a tropical storm to break their very serious drought. Let's hope they get it and we don't!

KEY WEST, Fla. - A light stream of traffic headed out of Key West Sunday as officials urged visitors to leave the string of low-lying islands ahead of Tropical Storm Fay, which forecasters said could strengthen to a hurricane.

I store about 500 lbs of ice. If worse comes to worse, I use generator to keep it frozen which of course makes it cost more the longer the generator as to work. During such times, I do not sell ice but I trade it for gasoline to keep the ice from melting. 1 gal gasoline = 10# ice :D It worked guut after katrina

Has anyone looked at the new track this morning? It's so nice outside but my radar shows heavy feed band approaching us from the north. They're now showing the center of the track has drifted southward, hugging the coastline where yesterday, the center was b-lining straight for the pinebelt. I was easier with that than being in the NE quadrant like we'll be if the current track holds. That quadrant is famous for spawning tornadoes. The wind has already picked up here and the storm is moving faster toward Ms. My afternoon we prolly have some pretty good winds out of the north,

Damn, I hate to discuss storms with all the hurricanecity crap going on but tough titty.

The flood of 82 will hopefully be a singular event. The city, state, and feds have spent millions of dollars cleaning, widening, and deepening Gordon's Creek.

Some things in there keep better than others! I wish I could find the web site. A guy actually tested and tried various MREs for shelf life. He also had info on reading the date codes. Last year I ate one that was good, but the cheese looked, well, not like cheese. I did not eat the cheese, but the rest was ok. A lot of it depends on the temp of storage, as much as the age...

Found the site. Much info as well as the longevity tests:

I would love to get my hands on some more. They come in handy on the boat, especially if you are out there longer than expected.

Its really nice outside right now. I took some before pics of my preparedness porch today and will take after pics tomorrow. My back porch turns into a creek when it rains as much as is predicted, in one door and out the other. and I live in a saddle on a hillside. Whoever built this house was pretty stupid not to raise the floor elevation about 6 measly inches. Its never gotten in the house but I've seen 4 inches on the back porch. It just doesn't run off fast enough. I would have to put in a major job storm sewer inlet and culvert to fix....a super expensive proposition which would ruin a lot of landscaping in the process. Plus MDOT said they were going to take me out by eminent domain to do the new highway so I figured why bother? That was like 10 years ago. Can't believe a damn thing they say. People will prolly be driving anti gravity vehicles by the time they get around to this project.
