I order a TV from Sony (got a good deal, I thought). Got it today. Hooked it up........doesn't work. Called Sony, they refuse to replace it. I AM PISSED!!!!
Sony will not replace any TV over 40 inches. They only repair. I've cussed 12 Mexicans, 8 Indians, two American idiots and a automated system.
I've purchased my last Sony item!!!! Did I mention I AM PISSED???

I've told them they'll never receive a payment on it. I got it through Sony Credit.
They can kiss my ...!!!!! I didn't purchase a refurbished TV, I purchased a new one.
I told them they can replace it or refund the money. Otherwise, they just gave it to me for free and I'll have it fixed myself.

Yeah, if McClellans had been offering the same terms/price, I would've purchased it there. Live and learn I guess........But it was about $400 cheaper through Sony, plus no payment/no interest/no shipping. Won't happen again. I will buy from McClellans from now own!

Yeah, I tried that. I also tried without the surge protector. It comes on from about 1-2 seconds and then goes to standby mode.

That's what I'm doing. I told no new tv, no payment. Their choice. They said they'd get back with me within the next 24 hrs. and thought they would be able to replace it but wouldn't guarantee anything. I had to bybass the Sony customer service and go straight to their US headquarters to get that. I'm done purchasing on the net. Hometown from now on.

I didn't know sony had a direct online store. I bought my Sony 40 inch from Electronic Express. It was over $400 cheaper than Doug plus Doug didn't seem to be able to get the model I wanted when I need it. His were on backorder.
Well, it came in and after watching it a week, I noticed the slightest dead line going across the screen, about as thin as a spider web. Researching, I found it was called a dead pixel line. Sony's online customer service sucked and told me I had to take it to their authorized repair shop which is Hattiesburg TV. I was very pissed myself. After all, Sony's are supposed to be top of the line and the price reflect that illusion.
I took it to Hattiesburg TV expecting to be without a TV for a couple weeks when the guy there told me it would prolly have to have the entire panel replaced. As it turned out, I had it back with a new panel in 2 days.
I didn't realize it until I had the problem and started googling, but most all the LCD makers won't even replace the panel unless a certain percentage of pixels are dead. Thank goodness, mine had enough dead pixels to qualify for replacement. So what that says is, you could have a small cluster of dead pixels in gd Sony and those bastards may not make it good. Sometime the dead area is so small no one notices it, but when you do finally see it, you see it every time you look at the screen no matter how miniscule.
Evidently, Sony is not the orig manufacturer of the panel. They're buying components from the cheapest suppliers in Taiwan just like the rest and their quality control is going to lead them to a great loss of market share.
In retrospect, I think I would have been just as satisfied with a Visio at half the price. I was blinded by branding.
If it makes you feel any better, I found the folks at Hattiesburg TV tops. But, I would fight like hell to get a new replacement too. sounds like you may have a bad mother board. Good Luck!

IDK about quality, but my $80 Daewoo plasma has LG components-
i have really looked it over, and haven't found any dead spots in it, however- if you look at it up close it looks like crapola.
it does, however, have problems switching from an analog signal to a digital signal thru the cable box-

It would seem I've finally reached someone at Sony and they are going to replace the tv.
At least that's the story for now. I finally got their headquarters (US) and spoke to an english speaking person without an accent. I should have a new tv by end of week or first of next week.

Apparently 24-48 hours in Sony time is actually 72-96 hours in normal time. I can't return it for a refund but have jumped that rump enough that I've gotten a $150 credit with Sony. I may shoot for more if they don't get something moving pretty soon.
I'll just have to watch my games in low def this weekend.

Reminds me of when I lived in Birmingham. USM played California at home on a Saturday, and the game was broadcast in HD on HDnet. I stood in Best Buy for nearly the entire first half "checking out" the different TVs in HD. I finally left when I could feel the stares of the people in the store who wanted the channel changed to the Bama game. :)

Well, I finally told Sony to--------well, being a gentleman and all, I can't say what I told them, but they've closed my account and are going to pick up the tv sometime. I'm going to buy one in town today, so if you see a deal, let me know.
Those idiots told me it would be possibly 10 more days before they would have the shipping situation handled for my new tv. This, after telling 24-48 hours and trying to blame the shipping company. Folks, NEVER EVER EVER purchase from Sony online. The worst buying experience of my 36 years.

Ok, I've settled on a Samsung after reading tons of reviews and various articles. It was a couple hundred cheaper and had the same things as the Sony I wanted. Looks awesome! HD is being installed right now! Bring on the college football season!!!!!!
I was beginning to think the good lord didn't want me to have a tv. Apparently he just wanted me to have a Samsung.

I've been dealing with DTV's crap for years. They literally do send crappy made chinese receivers. I've had more than one bad one.
I so hope AT&T will get on the ball with fiber in home bundles so I can tell DTV to kiss my arse.

When we had ours installed we thought so to but after the second unit and looking at it myself, it turned out that the lines were plugged in incorrectly.
Sorry you're having such a hard time getting your tv up and going.

I believe that only Verizon offers fiber to the home (FTTH) service. AT&T's U-verse is fiber to the neighborhood, copper to the home.

Another Sony story- Got a friend that ordered a PS3 through them because he got $150 off if he purchased it on a Sony account. He applied, got approved and completed his order. Next day, he checked on the status of his shipment and noticed his order had been cancelled. He called...
Sony told him they locked his account and cancelled the purchase because they thought it might have been a stolen card because he made a large purchase.
Now, remember, his card hadn't even been issued and the PS3 deal was subject to using that card. They now refuse to let him order until the card gets to him and he calls them.
Sony..........a bunch of damn folios.
