The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 12 new human cases of West Nile virus for 2008, bringing the state's total number to 54 with one death.
The new cases are in George, Hinds (4), Jones, Lincoln, Pearl River, Scott (2), Simpson and Sunflower counties.
Since March 2008, West Nile virus cases have been reported in Clarke, Forrest (3), George, Harrison, Hinds (9), Jasper, Jones (8), Lamar (2), Lawrence, Leake (2), Lincoln (2), Madison (4), Marion (2), Monroe (2), Neshoba (5), Pearl River (2), Rankin, Scott (4), Simpson, Sunflower and Washington counties.
