Bad auto crash moments ago in front of donanelles. No downanelles customers or employees involved. Multiple injuries...don't know how bad. Good news is 4 yr girl escaped unscathed, but father and possibly grandfather both extracted with jaws of life and transported.
Emergency personnel arrived quickly. There must be 20 emergency units here of all kinds. There were two eye witnesses interviewed by HPD. Four other people in other vehicle involved.... don't know the extent of their injuries if any.
More later as I know. The EMT people are doing an excellent job. Traffic is backed up to the Beverly Drive In

I think we have at least 3 broken legs in the pickup which impacted the rear or part of a loaded trailer hauling ATV's. Man that late model ford was smashed in to where the bumper was in the windshield. If both airbags hadn't deployed those guys would be history. Thank god the little girl was in the back seat and strapped into a child restraint seat. One of my customers kicked out the rear window and got her out almost immediately after impact when he heard her crying.
The HA is here. I bet they would like to see this web site to get the news.

Y'all there was a wreck Thursday morning just a little further south as I left for the doctors office at 0930. As I left there was a MHP unit slowing traffic in front of the restaurant and I asked wazzup? He said, "Oh you know, just another day on this stretch of 49." This makes at least 5 crashes this month in the 2.5 mile stretch between 98 East and Camp Shelby Southgate Rd.
(shaking head side to side) this is an every year thing with folks doing 70MPH+ on a narrow, hilly highway with no shoulders or cleared median, in all kinds of weather, night or day. At least they did resurface it this year and put the noise maker ruts on the yellow shoulder line. It's amazing how many times I hear people hitting those warning ruts. It's just scary there are such shitty drivers on such poor infrastructure on one of the busiest highways in the state.

I know what you mean Hawk. I hate you had to deal with that - that's your big 'ole heart at work there! At least everyone is okay.

I can't stand to hear kids crying,or seeing them hurt.
I used to could deal with it ,but not anymore.

I couldn't hack that job either.
My hat is really off to the HFD though as they responded very quickly and are the ones tasked with extraction. They had to break out all the tools to get the last guy out and it took over 30 minutes of cutting and bending to free him.
Elle said she got a call from No-Halo and he was directing traffic near Rose's Quik Stop. The cops did a real good job too opening up the northbound lane to ease the traffic jam on the south lane.
I saw just enough of what happened to prolly get my ass hauled to court to testify if one driver ends up suing the other. But there was one young couple on their way to the coast that saw it all, close and personal ... almost involved in it but able to stop in time and/or dodge the impact zone.
People inside the restaurant said they felt the impact in their bodies like the percussion from and explosion. I looked out the window from home when I heard someone laying on their horn and BOOM, debris went flying in all directions. I fully expected to see bodies all over the roadway and in the trees as I ran out the door calling 911.

One of the customers was an x-ray tech at FGH. After things were cleared up she and her family came back inside and ate and later she called FGH and it appears that the granddaddy doesn't have any broken bones at all. The daddy of the little girl has a broken femur but is said to be okay otherwise at this point. I so hate this happened but especially for the little girl. Today was her birthday and right now she is with a social worker. I tried to get them to let me keep her but they wouldn't, against the rules.

I'm just glad I'm not reading anything worse that what y'all have reported. Like hawk said, that is a bad stretch of road there and folks just drive it too fast and do too many other things while driving.

Update from friend of daddy in wreck- they came looking for personal belongings, wallet, phone, etc. The daddy did indeed undergo surgery, had 2 pins put in leg; the grandfather was treated for broken hand and foot and released last pm but he remains in hospital room with son. The child was picked up by family member and taken to the coast which is where they live. The three in the wreck had been to their hunting camp somewhere around Vicksburg and were traveling back to Long Beach. They are all in stable condition and the daddy will be released in approximately 4 days. They are all very appreciative of all the assistance they were given and wanted to convey a thank you to all involved in helping them.

I was thinking about "bloody 98" the other day and how much it's improved. I hope 49 doesn't take its place.
