Forever and a day it was "remember when Camille ..."
Then the big one came and changed everything about life with Katrina.
It's only been 3 years and I don't even like to see thoughts like this cross my mind but I have found myself thinking "better them than us".
A sad progression indeed.

I lost my uncle the night before Katrina hit, then had to put up with "the worst storm yet"
So this one SHOULD be more bearable than the other one.

You know I've been wondering how we've had so many damn 100 year storms, you think they'd call them 10 or 20 year storms.

My story about Katrina is long....tear filled...and exhausting. I hope this storm...or any other...does not...impact this area the way Katrina did to us on the coast. I am weary of any hurricane now. We all know that the power of the eye can travel well into us if hit directly...experience from Katrina. I remember Camile...tree's everywhere down up here...bumper to bumper traffic trying to flee. Hardships for us up here...possible loss of life for those left behind on the coast. The coast has not recovered from Katrina...there are area's that have returned to nature. You can drive 90 and imagine the area in the 1800s...majestic oaks...and that's it. The father west you go on 90 from Gulf Port...the more back to nature the coast presents itself. We...as inlander's suffer. Our brothers on the coast are tormented. All of us should...as neighbors...friends and relatives... stick together and help each other through times like these...but never forget people who are at the waters edge. Those who run for their lives and are apt to loose everything meaningful in their lives. Our tornado threat is alive and all to present in any weather but at this time...we listen for the sound of a rumbling train in the night. Passers by running from the wrath of a hurricane are welcome here...in our town...city....or my home. To loose everything tangible in your life from a storm...a person needs every comfort affordable. Travelers in the night?...(Refugees)...eyes wide open...full of fear...

Nana got up at 5 am this morning like a kid at Christmas. I had to get up too. All we have is light rain and wind around 10mph right now. Keeping a close eye on the outter ban which is now spawning tornadoes over around Mobile AL. Guessing around 10am to noon that we may be under the gun.
I'm hearing gunshots this morning. Could someone really be dove hunting this morning in this chit?
Traffic on 49 is next to nothing.

I got up at 5:45 this morning.......I'm the only one up. I've made two batches of blueberry biscuits for when everybody else get's up. Drizzels and some gusts to 15 mph here.

I stayed up until about 3am watching the cloud cover to see if I could spot any circulation from the feeder bands but it was just too overcast to clearly identify anything.
Bayou Dulac is taking a pounding right now with about 90 mph winds.
I can only hope that the last couple of big storms made a rebuild impression on everyone's minds down there.

Well, my only hurricane story is that my mother is staying with my sister instead of me. And my sister is getting the homecooked breakfast and all the homecooked meals. And my sister keeps texting me with the meal updates. I am thinking about kidnapping my mother.

Fotno, I feel for ya. My mom is at the age where she's becoming a child again, and she pouted the entire afternoon after I told her they really needed to go home. However, in the mist of the family freak out, I noticed lovebugs, so hopefully, the season is about to change, and cooler temps are ahead.

We made it too. It got pretty hairy here a few times-Lots of limbs down and a few trees out in the field.
We just got a call that our place in Baton Rouge has a big pine tree on it and that the water is rising fast...

Took the 12 mile ride over to RT's house and I didn't notice any damage anywhere during the trip.
Just a few limbs down.

Home again, home again. Not much to tell, except my mom cooked one of those great breakfasts too, yesterday. Got a leftover biscuit this morning. Came home a little before noon, no damage but an awful lot of water in my yard.
Grateful, grateful, grateful. I've had the lost-everything experience (Camille) and the scared-senseless-trees-crunching-the-house experience (Katrina), and frankly that was PLENTY. I'm grateful to be having the Home-safe&sound experience.
(Other storms? As our Scarlett would say, I'll think about that tomorrow.) ;)

Not much to tell her thank goodness, thank the Lord.
I've got some small limbs scattered here and there (all over the yard) but have not seen any trees down on fencing ... yet.
The electricity (REA) blipped a couple of times but never went off and of course the mighty Okatoma Water Association is as reliable as ever. Never skipped a beat during Katrina either.
I'm so keyed up with all the reactionary measures I thought I was going to have to take that I can't seem to get back onto normal living and chores but that will change just as soon as I see something I need to do and catch a fit.
