West Ship Island remains closed

Jerry Eubanks, superintendent of the Gulf Islands National Seashore in Gulf Breeze, Fla., said on Wednesday that West Ship Island remains closed two days after Hurricane Gustav made landfall in South Louisiana.
Eubanks, however, said Petit Bois, Horn, East Ship and Cat islands are open.
"We have not actually closed the islands other than West Ship," Eubanks said. "If they want to go out, they can. But we are letting people know that we have not been able to get out there and do our evaluation of the islands.
"West Ship Island is closed because that's where our facilities are and we are not sure what the hazards might be."
