I had some blood work done and found that my colesterol is high (everything else was good). Doc prescriped Lipitor. Anybody here ever taken it? I've read about side effects, so I'm just wondering if any of you have tried it.

For about five years.
It may make your muscles ache.

I'll tell ya a secret - I take it every other day and it keeps my 'cholesterol' down just fine without the muscle ache. You'll have to experiment and see what works for you.
For me it's a genetic predisposition to elevated LDL levels. Diet had no effect at all. So - I said "Screw It" and eat whatever I want and take the stinking pills.

Hmmmm - - I'll tell ya another secret: They (the AMA) lowered the @#$% numbers a couple of years ago so they could rope more of us into the 'high cholesterol' group.

And - they did the same thing with 'sugar' (serum glucose) and blood pressure - they lowered the numbers so that more of us look to be in the high risk groups.

You are most correct Ted. It seems all the eval numbers have been lowered so that everyone is in a "risk" group now.

my Triglycerides are up but, my cholesterol was down...however my thyroid was down too so now I am on a thyroid pill called levothyroxine

I woke this morning with a pounding headache! I do get headaches but this is jaw clenching.

Sugar, hope you feel better.

Older people should probably be careful with lipitor-type drugs. My mom has very high cholesterol, mostly congenital, and had all kinds of bad side effects from every one of those drugs they tried.

my Triglycerides are up but, my cholesterol was down...however my thyroid was down too so now I am on a thyroid pill called levothyroxine I have just the opposite - elevated LDL but very low triglycerides. My sawbones says I have the lowest triglycerides he's ever seen in a living person.

I woke this morning with a pounding headache! I do get headaches but this is jaw clenching.Well - - it's allergy/Ragweed season  and, with all the rain lately, there's probably a lot of mold and mildew floating in the air. I can't say that's the cause but it's a possibility.
Also, I hear there are several dadgum 'little virus bugs' going around that seem to be causing headaches.
The 'storm stress' and 'gasoline stress' and all the other modern inconveniences and aggravations added to the continuing heat and humidity may be contributing.

Try your favorite caffeine source and a couple of Alleve.

The barometric pressuring changing often causes me headaches, which are related to all things sinus.

I have taken several of the cholesterol reducing drugs. I have also had side effects from them; from feeling like something is eating my muscles to not be able to walk. I am currently on Lipitor following a 5-way bypass surgery. I take it at bedtime and do just fine with it. If I do take it too early though before going to sleep I get indigestion. I do recommend that you take it if at all possible to help avoid and/or delay surgery. Diet and exercise are key factors and will help tremendously.

I took Tylenol and coffee which worked great, till now. I have been having this jaw discomfort for about a mHeck I can remember when I heard the word and didn't know what that was...daughter says it's stress...I can remember when I had no stress. Now it is a daily thing.

Congrats on the low triglycerides Ted...maybe we should study you and see why your so abby!!!

Yes I have allergy's or sinus not sure there is a difference. Better one day, icky the next...I had hoped it would all go away when I quit smoking...sigh! According to the doctors smoking is what cause it was all to began with.

Gees Nana stay away from that stuff!!! It seems like the stuff to help, hurts more than the disease. But I know we got to take it till we get better.
