Dear Son just called and said that he just got his first buck! He said it was a HUGE spike. We caught the spike on the game cam the other night. OF course, it was the BIGGEST spike ever seen and it was the LONGEST shot ever and it ran into the WORST thicket on the face of the earth.

I am proud of him and he is, obviously about to bust, himself!

I am now thankful that I went to work today, as I am not at home skinning the deer...

We all enjoy the bounty, RD. Hunting and fishing are family events for us. Did I mention how happy I was that I would be missing the skinning and gutting event???

That's great. I'm happy for him. I share your sentiments on skinning/cleaning though.

That's all part of it......The first thing that my son brings up that he kills with his bb gun, is goinging to be plucked by him, and the breast will be grilled by dad, and he WILL eat it. It's all part of it.....the whole circle.

I'll just enjoy being the recipient of good stuff and not the provider.:D

Shortly after Dear Hubby and I married, he killed a deer and wasn't sure how to get the back strap out. He called my daddy. Daddy laughed as hard as he could and told him that his wife (me) was well aware of how to remove the back strap as his girls had been dressing his deer for years. I could have died. I was not fixin' to tell my new hubby that I knew how to dress a deer. My husband liked to helped me die after I let him call my daddy to ask a question that I could have easily answered!

He knows well how to do it all now, but still will let me in on it if I don't have anything else going on. I don't mind taking care of the meat after the skinning and gutting is done, but...I try to stay real busy when the hunting season is upon us!

My kind of girl, there! Congrats on the deer. Nothing like fried deer steak and homemade mash taters and gravy! MMMmmmmmmm.....
