Anybody taking fish oil? I have tried 3 times to take this and each time it gives me a whopping headache and continues to build in pain :smash: with each I take!!! Funny thing is it headaches are a common side effect and that is also suppose to help people with headaches!!! :smash:
I bought these at Sam's Club hoping it would be better than what you get at Walmart...and the Dr said I have to take them cause it reduces your triglycerides. She said Alaskans don't get heart disease....What no Mac Donalds? LOL
If I can't take these what else can I try? I don't know who to trust with the purities of vitamins!!! Anyone have a trustworthy brand you trust. I wish I was like hubby nothing gives him a headache and he can eat and take everything!!! Some people have all the luck!

Eat lots of cold water fishes. Salmon is best, but even sardines work. I love sardines but nana can't stand the smell and raises heck when I open a can. They do perfume the whole house, LOL, but it works for me.

I love me some sardines. Man, I like the ones in the spicey mustard sauce. You can't beat em'. Your breath will smell like a dead skunk for awhile, but dad gum those things are good.

Sugar, I know several folks that are on the fish oil thing right now and some of them have been taking it under doctor's guidance.
Sounds like you are taking too large a dose to get started. Also, if the ones you are taking still bother you after you cut the dose back to ease into it, go to GNC at the mall and ask them about theirs. They do tend to carry the better products for things like this.

I know but I am one of those who don't like fish...wet fish stinks too bad..well except fried catfish.
I love coconut shrimp...do that count any? You get it at the chines buffet!

I know exactly what you mean. I thought my fish oil intake would get handled by the fried catfish sandwich I get at Ward's but somebody told me that didn't count. Not sure if they knew what they were talking about. How much better can you get than a fried catfish sandwich at Ward's?

I like them sardine's too. And salmon....oh, man! don't get me started. When I was little, salmon fishing in the northwest was still great. My grandpa used to always have a freezer full. Also canned and smoked it. I can STILL taste how good that was.
Anyways...I take 3000mg of fish oil/day. Its that Spring Valley stuff you get at walmart. Doesn't seem to bother me that much. Either that or I'm just used to the pain. Make sure you get the 'enteric coated' kind, unless you enjoy tuna burps. ;)

Guru I can't cut it back it is a capsule form and all the oil will run out if I cut it in half. I am taking 1000 mg 1x a day. It maybe more than I need to get started.
And FB I do feel a bit more aggressive too...yesterday I was *****ing at the daughter more than I would have normally.

It has to be a cold-water fish. Salmon, tuna, etc. Catfish don't count. Neither do peacock bass ;)

This dude was beatin' the snot out of his ol' lady because she took em' back to communist Walley world for the 3.50 and bought a jar of powdered gatorade with the 3.50.
Some folks are just crazy, plain and simple.

OK no sardines in the house! Not disappointed but as I got out a can of tuna fish I saw allergy alert contains tuna and soybeans...huh? soybeans in tuna? So this is not pure tuna?...what?....Walmart brand.
Also I need to get it in the oil from now on, instead of water.

Are you taking the regular fish oil pill or the Omega 3 Fish Oil pill?
I take an Omega 3, but I haven't experienced any headaches. Mmm...I can't get enough tuna or salmon. Yum.

Omega 3, I had to go look! LOL!
Today I am happy to report I ate a whole can of tuna adding the regular fixings plus adding a packet of splenda. So I will do this maybe 3 x's a week right? And it is OK to eat all that cause it is on my Atkins list but no bread or crackers were eaten.

I have taken multiple brands of fish oil capsules. Never experienced headaches or any other known side effect from it. But I am supposed to take it daily for triglycerides.

Hey you all...What ever floats your boat...to me tuna and all wet fish has a bitterness so the splenda removes it. And yes it was yum. No I am not from the North and I am not putting sugar in my cornbread. I can't have any anyways!!!
Nana I have the headache every time..go figurer?

Thanks for the info that you can get smaller capsules. I should be taking it, but I cannot get those huge pills down. My mom is on fish oil and garlic pills for her cholesterol because she can't take any of the statin drugs. I need to be doing that too -- will give GNC a try.

Try to purchase pharmaceutical grade Omega 3 fish oil. The stuff you buy at Sam's is not pure. You also won't have the fishy burp taste with the good stuff.
I take 4000 mg per day and feel great.

found this online:
Omega 3 Fish Oil is truly a miracle...the problem is, to consume enough Omega 3 through eating fish, we'd have to eat toxic levels of fish. No thanks. And I'm not too fond on kelp. We simply cannot consume enough Omega 3 through our diet.
Why Is Fish Oil So Remarkable?
One answer lies in its ability to reduce inflammation. There are two types of inflammation. The classic form of inflammation hurts. That’s why you take anti-inflammatory drugs to relieve the pain. However, the second type is far more insidious. This is silent inflammation. This type of inflammation is below the perception of pain. It’s a marker of the inflammatory potential of a cell. It is not a disease, but it is the first clinical sign that you are no longer well. This is the type of inflammation that can’t be altered by any drug, but it can be reduced by fish oil. You need some inflammatory potential at the cellular level, but not too much. Therefore, if you had some nutritional way to reduce silent inflammation, then your state of wellness could be extended indefinitely. That is the promise of fish oil. It is not just fish oil, but the presence of the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenonic acid (DHA) that are key in reducing silent inflammation. If taken at the appropriate levels, they have been shown to reduce excess silent inflammation within 30 days. With that reduction of silent inflammation comes a return to wellness.
Omega 3 is also good for the following: joint health (mentioned above), heart health, mental health, and anti-aging to name a few.

Doc, you go MIA for awhile and come back and hit a grand slam!
Thanks for that information. I am going to try it and will commit to at least 60 days to give things time to work.
