...A LAKE WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM TO 5PM CST ON NEW YEARS DAY.
STRONG HIGH PRESSURE BUILDING IN FROM THE WEST BEHIND A COLD FRONT THAT MOVED ACROSS THE AREA MONDAY NIGHT... WILL KEEP A TIGHT PRESSURE GRADIENT OVER THE AREA NEW YEARS DAY. AS A RESULT...WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 15 TO 25 MPH BY MID MORNING ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA...WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO 30 MPH POSSIBLE. WINDS WILL SUBSIDE AFTER SUNSET THIS EVENING.
A LAKE WIND ADVISORY INDICATES THAT WINDS WILL CAUSE ROUGH CHOP ON AREA LAKES. SMALL BOATS WILL BE ESPECIALLY PRONE TO CAPSIZING. WIND GUSTS OF 30 TO 35 MILES PER HOUR OCCASIONALLY BRING DOWN LARGE LIMBS AND ROTTED TREES CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE. EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN OUTDOORS DURING THESE STRONG WINDS.

A good day for sailing inDEED!

Thanks for the update QM. You know we are still seeing "Katrina" trees falling?
Yesterday someone and I were talking about trees, conditions, etc and the term "Katrina" trees was mentioned. I had never heard it before.
The way it was explained to me there is a theory that a lot of the Pine trees, some Oaks, etc that we see now as dead trees were the victim of the huge swaying action during Katrina. Of course some of these trees perished from the resulting drought we have been in that began with the storm. Can you imagine what the Atlanta area will look like in a year or two? Dry would be anything that would allow that lake North of Atlanta to drop to the level it is at now.
Anyway, it didn't get as cold this morning as predicted but I am going to do some more cold snap checks today in preparation for tomorrow morning just in case.
