What do I do if I buy something that just has a bill of sale. Can someone explain to me how hard it would be to get a title?
The only other encounter like this is when I bought a car from someone and they signed but the other owners didn't so I had to mail the title two states away and get it sent back before I could get it in my name.
Anyone that has done this can you tell me what you exactly had to do?
Thanks

Dude, there places that will sell you a title for the kind of car you buy, so you can get a tag.
Also, some states don't require a title, per se, to get registered. Used to, someone in Mississippi who didn't have a title could sell the car to someone in Alabama, get a tag and title in Alabama for it, then sell it back to someone in Mississippi and get a title here.
Also, you could go apply for a title for an 'abandoned' vehicle.

My '50 Plymouth has no title, so I'm either gonna go the 'abandoned' vehicle route or buy a title from someone. I.e, some junkyards sell titles, but the ones I've heard doing it are outta state, which is fine with me. I just need a title, too.

Here's a place in Alabama that can hook you up.

Also, there is a thing called a 'bonded' title. I don't know much about it, but I think you fill out some paperwork and get an insurance bond to guarantee the car ain't 'hot'.

Havn't technically bought yet but the guy said he was bringing it to me saturday. Its a 1988 motorcycle.
The reason I ask is because in certain states, titles were not issued on cars until around this time. I believe it is in georgia if you have a motor vehicle and it is 20 or more years older all you need is a bill of sale.

I hope so, it was cheap enough that I figured I could make a profit. Sold the stang. :) :) :)
I never had insurance on my last bike (no flames lol) and I owned that for awhile, is it hard to get insurance if ya dont have a title?

Glad to see you get away from the 'stang. What kinda bike you looking at? Crotch rocket?

1988 cbr 600 F1? Yeah crotch rocket.
I generally wasn't going to get another bike, I was looking for something 1500 and UNDER. I was wanting something that got in the 30+ range, the only thing I found that I didn't think would destroy within a year was an s10 and a geo tracker. The bike just happened to be almost 1/3rd the price.
He said he would bring it to me on saturday but he sounded reluctant on the phone. Regardless, for the price I am getting it at I know I could make a profit on it if I ever had to sell it again.
I generally just wanted the title to sell it.

Get an old Honda or Yamaha cruiser bike and make a bobber out of it, now that'd be cool.

If'n I could find an old Honda or Yamaha cheap enough, I'd build one like that. I might make it back in time for Donanelles, I'm sitting outside New Orleans right now, been down here working. But, I'm supposed to go home tomorrow afternoon.

Those are cool, I would like to take on a task like that in a few years. I like those kinds of motorcycles, I also like hearing Guru's stories about him taking trips across the country. Those look like fun bikes to do it on.

What was the year on the Geo Tracker, what kind of shape was it in and was it one of the little Jeep looking convertibles?
