Hey y'all I need suggestions on a great vacuum cleaner!!! Since I can not find my vacuum cleaner hose I have decided to get a new vacuum. I needed it bad Saturday when I was cleaning! Although not needed everyday...I gotta have one for my couch and other stuff periodically.

Anyways My old vacuum is 15 years old and they no longer make anything for that model. So said Knights sewing center. I have used the commercial vac by panasonic since the early 80's They are awesome machines with 50 foot cords if your looking for a great upright!!

I am thinking I want a canister this time, cause of how heavy the uprights get and lugs down on my shoulder.

Any suggestions....I'd like to get one that will last a very long time and it needs to have a great HEPA filtration because of my allergies.

Been looking at Dyson or Miele. Need to take out a lone to get the Miele!

A show on FLN called the "Shopping Bags" did a comparison of several vacuums a couple of weeks ago. Maybe that's available on their website?

panasonic makes some of the greatest stuff out there- i would go with a panasonic upright again-

my parents had a panasonic upright for 12 years before we burned the motor out of it- and the only reason it burned out was because someone got something caught up in the belt drive of it. BTW i think knights does do local service on them

i'm not impressed with the dyson- we had our for 2 years approx and that thing is in the garage right now since the dayum thing won't go into a "locked" upright position, or will it suck thru the brushes- just through the hose.

we inherited a kenmore little blue canister, and while it is neat, it's a PITA to actually use- the cord is short and the bag is small.

BTW that kenmore was a consumer reports best buy- was ranked #1 among power and features

I would love to have an Oreck, but I guess I'll have to stick with my ghetto vacuum cleaner for now.

Sugar, I will be of little help as I literally break one beyond repair is 2-3 years. I don't know what I do to the things. Anyway, I've killed Hoovers (2 or 3...not sure of the exact body count) and am currently on my way to killing a Bissell Heathy Home model I bought just last year.

Have you looked at Consumer Reports? They have good information that would help with decision making.

After much research, I called my Aunt who is a clean freak and really up on all the best gadgets. She insisted that the Kenmore canister would be the best choice. After buying that tornado style one and a Dyson upright over the last three years, I finally went and got the Kenmore and it is great! IT works well on furniture, carpet, hardflor and my scored concrete. Best vacuum I have ever had! THe model name is Progressive. It cost $299.

vacuum cleaners cost as much as four-wheelers do nowadays.
I think it's a travesty.

Oreck is a brand of vacuum. Here's their website link:

My ghetto vacuum is a dirt devil bagless.

The Miele's are not cheap either! (http://www.allbrands.com/products/abc1253.html)I am leaning toward that brand. Cause it is made in Germany.

whatever you do dont get any of those psyclones or bagless ones. We have been through probably a million different ones, even the expensive ones. Their suction power sucks and they always tear up.

Our best vacuum has ALWAYS been a dirt devil.

Sugar, I have a Dirt Devil too and I love it. It is bagless and has a hepa filter...cleans like all get outs. Only cost about $100.00 so it wasn't too expensive. It has a cleaning wand and attachments that clamp on board. I recently bought my son one when he got his new house...he likes his too. I ALWAYS hated changing the bags on my old cleaner! I would end up with a mell of a hess! :)

I use a wet/dry vac for the boat, truck, and tents.

I will never buy an Oreck, not because its a bad product but due to the fact they closed their plant in Long Beach after Katrina. Cost 100's of jobs when they needed them the most.

I like the bagless because you can see what your picking up, just dump it and beat the filter around after every use.

We will go with the Kenmore the next time like CSG said. CR has rated it number 1 for many years. I think its around $300. You can get it in a bag or bagless model.

My mom cleaned houses after we graduated...she had a/an Eureka canister...the thing outlived her...I used it for 10 years after she passed. Best vacuum on the market IMO!
There is a/an Eureka dealer on W 4th street of 49....or there was a couple of years ago.
